We can't win a war we already lost as soon as Rumsfeld limited the amount of troops going in from the very start. No, it's lost, that's all there is to it.

We have won the war in Iraq, without a doubt it was a lopsided victory. We are never going to win the occupation of this country though, in order to do that we would have to have support from more then 20% of the people. Currently 80% of the Iraqi people want us to leave. As long as we are there, they will fight us. There is no winning an ideology. Put yourself in their shoes, they are the mighty country and they invade and take down the American president, and install their own. How would you like to live in a country that was at war with each other and being occupied by what you consider to be the enemy. Leave right or wrong out of it.

If you think this is a war, you need to read the history of the United States. This is a take over of a country to control oil in the Middle East. We are building permanent bases in Iraq. The republicans and democrats are keeping it from the American people, There will be troops there for the next fifty years. Example of this is Germany and South Korea. This is not about terrorism, Bin Laden is not in Iraq.

Winning would mean a stable Iraqi Republic. President Bush tried the Reagan stratagem of taking action to speed things up since the Middle East has been moving in that direction ever so slowly. This slow change is actually the base cause of extreme Islam. Even with our push, this is not something that will happen anytime soon. This will be an open question for many years and even when a stable Republic forms up in Iraq, people will question whether or not it would have happened without the war. This may be one of those questions that never gets answered conclusively.

We already won the war; remember the Mission Accomplished sign on the warship that Bush landed on? What we have now is an occupation of Iraq, and we are trying to establish and stabilize a government that is favorable to us. We may not be able to do that, but I repeat, we won the war and defeated Saddam Hussein's army.

If you read the article linked below, you will see that the surge is hampered by the Iraqi's sending us off on sectarian squabbles in what is obviously a civil war. The US Commanders are correct in not acquiescing.
The war is already lost because the strategy is flawed, all the great tactics our military has and will have executed in the end cannot change the incorrect assumptions at the time of invasion

It all depends on what winning is... seriously, does anybody know what that means anymore?
We have already won in my mind:
- Saddam is out... dead
- Iraq has a new democratic government of elected officials
- There is an Iraqi police force (although they rely on us too much)
What else is there in terms of winning?...
Now we are suppose to resolve their civil war? We can't do that. Imagine if a foreign nation had come here and tried to resolve our civil war... even if they made us stop fighting, we would have still hated each other.

I think maybe this deals with the idea of any nuclear capable nation fighting a war that can win them anything they cannot otherwise gain. Maybe once a country achieves nuclear power it becomes in no way beneficial to instigate a conflict.

Even Bush's most ardent supporters agree that the war cannot be won militarily--a political solution must be found to end the conflict.
Now, you might want to ask why Bush isn't seeking a plitical solution.

The corporations who made big money off the war will, as for the men and women on both sides who's blood stains the sands, well at least we can pretend they fought for someone besides shell and Haliburtan.
