The term 350 Small Block can be broken down into 2 Parts.
350- 350 refers to the Cubic Inches(of Volume) on the Downstroke
of the Pistons(for example,if you were to pour water into the 8 cylinders [cavities] of this engine,they would hold 350 cubic inches of water.)
Small Block- is the Engine itself,minus the Heads,manifold(Carberateur) igniton,etc. Its commonly referred to as A"Mouse Motor", rather than a "Rat Motor",for Big Blocks, by car enthusiasts.
Did you Know that the First Small Block,the 265 of 1955, didnt have an Oil Filter?! Aint too many of those Left!

A "350 small block" is a 350 cubic inch motor (referring to the displacement of the cylinders). "small block" is the size of the block. General Motors, Ford, Dodge, and a few others, used two sizes of V8 blocks, small blocks and big blocks. Usually smaller cubic inch motors are small blocks and larger cubic inch motors are big blocks. Contrary to popular belief, there is no set cut off point that determines whether an engine is a big or small block. Chevy makes a 427 cubic inch small block, but they also made a 396 cubic inch big block. Ford made a 351 cubic inch small block, yet they also made a 334 cubic inch big block. The size of the engine block on the outside is what determines whether it is a big or small block, not the displacement of the cylinders on the inside. The size in cubic inches doesn't always determine small or big block status.

the guy above has pretty much hit the nail on the head. 350 is its displacement, which is found by borexstrokex3.14 divided by the number of cylinders. a small block is just a class of motor. a 350 is a big,small block engine.the cut off is at 360 cubic inches.which dodge had a motor of this size.so it straddled the fence between big and small block. also on top of some early engines not having oil filters.they used the engine oil to clean the air they took in.

well chevy had out two versions of v8's small blocks and big block the number 350 refers to the cubic inche of the motor. how much volume the cylinders hold. a chevy 350 is a three hundred and fifty cubic inch motor. which is a small block where as a 454 is a four hundred and fifty four cublic inch block.

Generally a bore should cost $300 or under, but add about $50-70 if your mechanic is using torque plates. The block decking is usually a $100-$200 procedure, so you seem to be in the right ball park. You are getting a good deal on the cam bearing and frost plugs as those can usually cost a lot more, cam bearings alone being over $400, at least from my research and experience. Of course, mechanics are known to be almost as used care salesmen, by jacking up prices or telling "little white lies", but generally if you know your mechanic you could get a good deal on the work.

1st of all chevy made small blocks and big blocks. They made 327, 350, 400 these are small blocks and they made 396, 454 which are big blocks. The # is the cubic inches!

its a Small Block V8 Chevy motor.
yeah a Lazy Hot Rodders Motor. If done right you can rebuild 1 right and you will be foing Great if you can Crank out over 400 HP just on gas alone with a single 4 barrell Carborator. It can be done with E.F.I. also.
