No matter what you rub on it, you're still rubbing her sore rear end. That's why she's upset, it hurts.
There is a diaper rash spray so you don't have to touch her, it just sprays on. My friend bought hers at walgreens, it's a small white bottle with a spray top, baby on the label. I don't remember the brand name, but since I had never seen it before it sticks out in my mind. What a great idea for babies!
The brands that are available all over are:Baby Spritz - Diaper Rash Spray, Happy Bottoms(TM) Diaper Rash Spray, Diaper Lotion Potion Spray, Little Bottom Daily Care Spray For Diaper Rash.
When you need to clean her rear end, put her in the tub and use mild soap like Dove unscented and tepid water to gently clean her up. No wash cloth, just let the water rinse her off and then let it all go down the drain. Pat it dry and let her go without a diaper as long as you can.
I'm so sorry she has the stomach bug. I hope she feels better soon!! Take care.

I haven't used Desitin myself, maybe there is an inactive ingredient in there that could be stinging a little bit, if it's that bad. My mentor, a mother of four, says that it's crap and don't bother using it. It could also be that rubbing it in is making it sting a little bit. Try plain vaseline or switch to another brand. I mixed a little vaseline w/ some liquid powder and my daughter's diaper rash cleared up by the next morning, but it wasn't a real bad case. If it continues, give her pediatrician a call, they may want to see her just to take a look, and can prescribe a prescription diaper rash that will definitely help. Good luck!

My 7 month old daughter had the same problem. Desitin was just putting her in more pain. My mom told me to use Aquaphor, you can find it by the diaper rash ointments. It works wonderfully, and my daughter's rash cleared up in about a week.

My babies first diaper rash got really out of hand fast and my grandma was over and I was going to put some penetan on it she said not to, that it would cause his skin to fall off. She was right chunks of skin fell out. Penetan is a really thick zinc cream, as is Desitin I think.
Yes diaper rash cream can hurt, either just rubbing it on or what it is in it. Try using a liquid antacid NOT pepto as it contains salicylates which are not recommend for use in children. Antacids neutralize the acid in diarrhea and urine and protect the skin. Also they are thin enough you can pour them on rather than rub them in.

For severe diaper rash, she may need a medicated cream like 1% Hydrocortisone in Canesten cream. Often after a stomach virus or a course of oral antibiotics, babies can get a rash from a yeast infection on thier bottom.
A good product for their bottoms when you notice redness just starting is a European product called Sudocrem. They have it at Wal Mart and Babies R Us.

I have a 5 and 2 yr old daughter. Desitin would make their bottoms welt on top of the rash. The only thing that helped was Johnson and Johnson's Cornstarch (natural ingred.)powder. You can find it at any national chain(Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen's). Good luck, I hope this helped!

Yes, I have 2 boys and Desitin never worked. They always cried when I put it on. Try A&D Ointment. It works fast. Desitin is good to prevent rash.

My son also had a really ugly and severe diaper rash and nothing worked until we tried this ointment called Nelda's paste. It is miracle butt cream!!! It is made specifically for the Childrens Hospital in Calgary Alberta. It can also be picked up at some shoppers drug mart (that is where I got it). You could always contact the Hospitals pharmacy and ask them where you could get it in your community. Good luck.

There is a product called Super Duper Diaper Doo (or Goo). It is a much better product. I got it from my doctor the first time and even used it at a nursing home I use to work at. It is in a pink tube.

I did, destin is good. Shes just irratated from all the diapers and wiping, try a warm wash cloth instead of wipes. Soak her in water and let her play. If all else fails take her to the dr and you can get a better butt cream for her.
Good luck
