How about the unfair maligning of the Black Panthers. I wrote a paper on them a decade or so ago. You will probably find it interesting.

Well when I was in school i liked to write about something that its unlikely the teacher/reader will know little about; so they wouldn't be like extra bored reading a paper they have read about twenty times before. I do like the suggestion about the myspace/facebook, reason being its not common knowledge that employers are now using these sites as tools to get to know potential employees. The topic I was going to suggest is Water intoxication, I was in a seminar the other day and knew nothing but have since reasearched; and come to find outit was recently in the news that someone has recently died from this. There is also a disease that is rare but a person can eat themselves to death, seriously, they can't stop eating they will eat out of the garbage, etc. I tried to find the name but I can't and I don't remember it. I hope I helped a little.

Brett, i am in a writing intensive class in college. we have to write several papers also. sucky but 4-5 pages is nothing later on in life. i just turned in a paper about heritability (genetics) and behavior in ants. like how behaviors are inherited rather than learned. i probably still have the paper on a flash drive if you want an example (i'm sure plagiarism won't be an issue). i can send it to you via e-mail. my next topic is predation and behavior. i'm thinking of researching stealth behavior in snakes and other crazy a$$ animals. those are my suggestions.

The best papers are about something you actually care about.
You have to pick a topic on something you like.
Here are some ideas:
Favorite sport?
Your role model?
How you feel about the war in Iraq?
What was the single best day in your life and why?
What you want to do with your life?

Check out http://www.ClassTopic.com They have some great topics that I've used in the past. Each topic has three good sources to get you started on the research, too.

I have to do an informational speech and I'm considering talking about the popularity of weblogs. Either that or social networking websites like Facebook and Myspace. They're becoming so popular and I think it's a good topic to research.

I think a good subject to write about would be Global Warming. There is a lot of discussion about it and you could find a lot of articles on the Internet or at the library about it.

You could write about your school experiences and what you have learned and gained from them. Another good topic would be: "I have a dream" by Martin Luther King, Jr. You could also write the pros and cons of dieting and diet pills.

Try a hot topic with plenty of readily available materials like the war on Irac. " Why did we go back, why do we stay". Just a thought.
