you can make sure you stretch and then try staying in the splits (as far as you can go) for about a minute, or if you can hold it longer go for it! do some leg stretched like on a high counter, put your leg up their and do some pleays and relevays.

When you watch your favorite TV show, go as far as you can on your right leg split without putting your knees down and hold the position (balancing as little as possible with your hands as anchors) for the length of the commercials. Rest when your show comes back on. At the next set of commercials, hold your left leg split, rest again, then hold your straddle. If you do this on a regular basis while watching TV, you will eventually be holding full splits and attempt to increase your flexibility further while simply watching TV!

stretch EVERDAY!
go down into your split. and hold it for 3 minutes!. thats how i got it. i asked my dance teacher how i could get my split because i've been stretching alot for a while and still couldnt do it. and she told me to hold it for 3 minutes. it feels like FOREVER when your down there.but you could see the difference QUICKLY. and you don't have to do it doing nothing.
definatly do it while watching TV, that way you won't be concentrating on the time and it'll seem slower.
make sure you front knee is facing completely up. and the back leg is completely down on the floor. not turned sideways. hips should be squared.
---make sure you do it on BOTH sides!
and ask your teacher in class to do walking splits across the room

side split stretches:
1st stretch:take a thick book and put it down on the ground then put one of your feet on it and go down into the splits position as far as u can and hold it there for like 2 minutes and switch legs.then do it without the book.
2nd stretch:put one leg straight in front and the other leg fully bended and try to touch your foot that is straight and hold it for like 1 min then switch legs.
3rd stretch do the splits as far as u can down and hold it for 1 or 2 mins and switch legs.
4th stretch:if u can do the splits then hold your front foot for 30sec-1min then sit straight and bend your back and extend your arms backwards and do it with the other leg.
5th stretch: do lunges
middle splits:
stretch:do it as far down as u can and hold it there for 1 or 2min and rest for a few minutes and do it again.
and yoga would help

to be honest their is no easy way but to just do them,
try side splits they stretch on both legs which can help you ghet down on both sides
. practice 4 times a day and hold each stretch for 30 secs, try to have warmed up before hand ,
if you dont warm up before hand then make sure you dont push urself down to far and hold it wear you can feel the stretch but its not killer pain.
if u do go to far u will hurt urself and end up at square 1 .

I am shocked and horrified at the general approach to answering questions of this nature!
"Just doing them" and "...get a spilts machine" are rediculous answers to say the least. The general split range is most often effected by STRUCTURE not muscular flexibility. Please be carefull. Do not push youself beyound what your body (ligaments, muscles and joints) is capable of. There are quick fixes to many things but the price they charge is heavy as you age.

stretch into them..everyday..even if its just for a minute...and do both sides...you'll have them in no time..but once you get them, you still have to keep stretching them or you will lose them..which sucks lol
