That is so funny. I was literally thinking the same thing yesterday.

The monster certainly seems to take on many forms though, including smoke and forms of people/past events (e.g. Eko's brother, Jack's dad, the horse, Dave, giant polar bears (from Walt's magazine?)). The producers have said that it is loosely based on a scientific theory, and I believe they are fans of Michael Crighton. Can't wait to find out.
