when i slide i either slide late or sometimes i hit the floor knee first instead my upper body

run extremely fast and slide feet in front of you first sliding your one leg under the other to slide on your side of your leg. Get a slider that helps people slide better. What I did was run and slid on the floor stomach first all stretched out so I touched the base or slid leg under the other falling with my butt on the base.

when i train my girls to slide we use either a large piece of cardboard with baby powder and slide that way until they get the hang of it...or once the weather gets warmer use a slip and slide it will help you know that it wont hurt...not knowing how to slide correctly will get you hurt..also when sliding using sliders or wearing baseball pants will help not to scrap you legs up.. good luck
