I don't think that there should be school uniforms in public schools. I'm against school uniforms because people (mostly girls) express themselves through what clothes they wear. Someone who want to be independent usually wear outfits that other people normally don't. I do think that schools should have a dress code though. I mean, Girls shouldn't be wearing mini skirts or cut off shirts. But sometimes, creativity and can express someone's feelings or personalites. What do you all think?

"uniform" for public schools would be following guidelines and not like the uniforms of a parochial school. For example, the schools that are public can specify: Plain t-shirts only, nothing with any logo or branding on them. No mini skirts, no halter tops for girls, for guys no "baggy" pants, etc. So the terminology "school uniform" is rather a misnomer for public schools and are rules and guidelines written into the school code instead.

Well, from experience I know that there is still a great deal of flexibility as to what brands of clothes you get to wear. Just by wearing a uniform does not mean that you cannot get creative and let your personality shine thru. But then again, it all depends on the school you are going and to what extent they want you to look "presentable".

I would add that when a school asks you to wear uniforms, it is for a multitude of reasons. One of them would be to increase school pride, and to prevent outsiders from coming in randomly and destroying school grounds. Another is simply because it is easier for someone to identify you as going to a certain school, especially if it is a good one.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I think that all schools should require school uniforms. Some parents, and kids can't keep up with the "Jonses" in the clothing department, leaving them with whatever they can afford to wear. And at times this causes some kids who can afford nice, in style clothing, to pick on the less fortunate ones. So, my vote goes for requirements of uniforms in all schools. Sorry to disappoint, but I have thought this for years. And, by my own choice as a child, I was one of those independent kids who wore exactly what I wanted to wear. But I didn't, nor do I now, pick on people for what they want to wear.
