We live in NY.
We just had our first son. We are going away for one week while the baby stays with grandma and grandpa in Colombia, southamerica.
God forbids something happens to us, we dont want any arguments between grandparents. The baby stays with maternal parents in Colombia.
What happens there? Should we bring the document with us and enforce it in Colombia (in the event that something happens)
Or if something happens, my parents should come to USA???

a living will is used for medical treatments not custody arraignments..you need a will and testament saying who will receive custody of the child in the event of both parents death...a copy needs to be filled with your lawyer and the grandparents who would raise the child should also have a copy..and you should let the other grandparents know of your intentions to avoid legal fights...although in a lot of states grandparents do have rights and such so there still could be a legal fight

You need to file it in BOTH PLACES. Infact, it is in your best interest to contact an attorney so that the papers are properly filed and there is no dispute arising between the documents (as they may need to be slightly different to fulfil jurisdictional requirements in each place).
