I am a "normal" thirty something educated person. I cannot seem to make time for a friend, but at the same time, I really need one. I have been a mom since 18, and again started again at 28 so I really haven't been anything other than a mom. I married my current husband at 22 and am happy. He is supportive and I am not lacking in that area. I have 3 kids and my oldest (19 years old had a child) so I now have a grandbaby in the house. Sometimes, I really miss having a girlfriend. But, it seems putting yourself "out there" is kind of like dating. I miss having a girlfriend but also feel I am missing something.j
How does a thirty something part time working person find a friend? Work doesn't seem to be an option. I haven't really clicked with anyone.
Help.

Begin with learning to love yourself. Accept yourself without reservation and without judgment. Find comfort in yourself. After all, if you can't learn to love yourself, how can anyone else love you. So be good to yourself. Treat yourself to some time off. Look into groups, church groups, social groups, social service groups. If you live in a big city there are plenty of organizations for women, organizations that meet weekly, monthly, quarterly and so forth. Volunteer to help some charities. You'll meet lots of people this way. Be good to yourself and good to others and it will be returned to you.

I empathize. I have not had a girl friend for the past 11 years. I too miss the nurturing relationship of amity with a 'sister', and I find it very hard to meet women I am compatible with. It is as if something happened in recent years that's made women either boring, too self-centered or crazy. But I keep looking anyway. I strike up conversation with women at the supermarket, street fairs, museums etc. The conversation is okay for the moment then I completely forget about them.
Pity, isn't it.

Do something for your self that you like. Join a class. Maybe a scrapbooking class (bet you have lots of photos of the kids) or some other hobby you might enjoy. Take one day a week to join a book club or get on a softball team. Find something you enjoy and make special time. The best way to meet friends is through a shared interest.

Do you have any hobbies? Cooking, reading, knitting?? anything?

I find new friends by joining local cooking club.
You can search for many local clubs online. It's fun to meet new people.

Good luck.
