Buy clothes for the child or bring down a pack of candy. And another thing for that Caicos Turkey person that answered this question I live inJamaicanand books are not expensive or hard to come by and yes we are literate and go to school. Something they might not buy for themselves, but would really love to have. Perhaps nice perfume for the lady. American perfume is extremly expensive there.
T-shirts from where you live would be nice for the man.
For the kids, art supplies would be very nice.
Jamaica is a very poor country. The parents actually have to pay for their kids to go to school, and art supplies are just not something they have.
Its very nice of you to think about gifts for the hosts.
Enjoy yourself, and be sure to see Negril while you are there. Its a must!

Sneakers/shoes for any of the hosts would be great. As for school supplies....they will love anything that would be age appropriate for the child....crayons, pens, pencils, notebooks, staplers, calculators etc....Another thing they love is toiletries...soaps, shampoo, deoderant....very expensive....Im sure the hosts will be appreciative of anything you bring....especially if they can use them....ceiling fans and power tools are also a big item to bring that they can use. Have fun.

You can find almost anything you want in Jamaca. The idea of a school or project kit sounds good. If they are old enough try some of the science kits available at wal-mart or some of the science spots on the web.

Bottles of rum. You can bring an Appleton, J. Wray & Nephew etc
Oh! You're in the US. Bring liquor anyway but take something nice like Courvoisier or Hennessey.

I think that some books for the appropriate age would be welcome. These are hard to come by and expensive in Jamaica. Art supplies sound a great idea too.
