Yes Aim is free.. If you want to forward IM's to your cell phone, then it is still free, but you will pay for text messages sent/received (based on your cellular plan).

For example, I have free incoming text messages on my cell phone, so I don't pay anything to have IM's forwarded as text messages, but if I want to reply via cell phone then I'm charged $.10 per IM sent

its free on computer, id recommend downloading the old aim, but aim on your cell phone is prob like .99 a message, like someone said
