With my first daughter I was told to walk because we needed the baby to come down farther into my pelvis, the key to making your walking effective is to lift up your belly a bit with your hands under it. I have a slightly tipped uterus and by lifting my belly up it allowed my daughter to fall into place (lol) and I walked alot with her, and had lots of false labor!!! And baby will come when s/he is ready, just give it a bit of time, it's not unusual to go a full 40 weeks, I started going into labor with my girls at 36 weeks and then they didn't end up coming out until 39.5 weeks +!! Oh and if you don't have an exercise ball, you can get one at Wal-Mart or similar store, or you can get those very big childs play balls that are just about the same size as the exercise balls for about 3 or 4 dollars, my daughter had a huge ball and I loved to sit on it!!
Good luck, and be patient, just keep in mind to cherish these last moments of your pregnancy with this child because too soon it will be over :) and you will be very happy about it I'm sure ;)

Here's some bad news. Some women's bodies don't respond very well to petocin, and need an extra push. I have 3 girls, 2 were induced, and the one that wasn't was born 3 weeks late. I walked, worked, had sex, ate weird salads, the whole 9 yards. I don't have any advice about waiting it out, I was miserable from about 35 weeks until the end. I was huge, and my girls were each between 8 lbs 9 oz and 9 lbs 4 oz.
enjoy this exciting time!
PS. Once they get here it's all worth wile!!!

The day before I had my oldest daughter, my husband and I walked our local mall in it's entirety.....3 times! We left, had dinner at a local steakhouse,...mmm! And the next morning at 2am I started having pressure (I had been dilated 2 cm. for 2 weeks) thought I needed to go potty. Went then woke up around four with contractions, every 5 mins. By 1:55pm, my hubby and I were the proud parents of a tiny (5lbs. 1oz.) baby girl. That was 5 yrs. ago. We had another very tiny miracle (3lb 7oz) born in 2004 via emergency C-section.....didn't have to worry about walking with her, she was also breech! Anyway....Good luck, I hope it works, and Congrats!

at 39 weeks i was 3 cm and my doc said to REST REST you will need it dont go walk the mall and get tired. It will come soon enough when he/she is ready. My first was induced and I will never do that again. My second was natural and I went in for my weekly check up and still the same 3cm and that evenging 9pm first contraction by 1am the next morning he was here, no durgs. But everyone is different. REST!

Walking does help bring the baby down. Unfortunately, when I was pregnant, it didn't work. I delivered at 41 weeks. I had to be induced. Hopefully, that won't happen in your case. Just be patient and enjoy the time you have left before baby comes. Good luck and congrats!!!

1. Nipple stimulation- releases oxytocin, which causes uterine contraction.
2. Sex- semen contains prostaglandins, which help mature the cervix. But only do this if your membranes have NOT ruptured (if they have, you should be in the hospital in labor&delivery anyway).
3. walking
Nothing is consistently effective but then again the above generally are pleasurable anyway so it can't really hurt.

Walking and sex help. I walked with my 1st pregnancy and it helped a lot. Sex is the tried and true method of causing labor.
Congrats and good luck!
