It depends on where the child is developmentally. I work with a student in highschool that is Autistic and although he is a very smart person, he has difficulty with the social aspect of school.

He has a lot of trouble staying still and rocks back and forth, especially when he is at his computer. We have a sign that is taped to his computer screen that says feet on the floor. When we see his feet up, we go over to the screen and point to the sign and he repeats it. This works well. We have him find information in the newspaper on weather and he writes it in. He has a journal that has questions such as where does he live, is he going home on the bus, etc. He does mosaics, puzzles, board games.

One of the main issues is money. We have pictures of items you can buy and how much they cost and we have him tell us how much it would cost.

The main educational issue that should be addressed is making his lessons simple. When doing up tests, make it true/false, fill in the blank, matching. When assigning questions for homework, you need to midify the questions and/or pick the best ones that yo know he/she can answer without much difficulty.
