A blood test will show if you are pregnant or not 7 days following conception.
If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

Yes, blood tests are more sensitive than HPTs. But it is still testing for the pregnancy hormone. When the sperm and egg meet, the meet in the fallopian tube. Then is takes a few days for the egg to travel down to the uterus and implant. Then it takes a few days for the implanted egg to start producing enough of the pregnancy hormone to be detected. So you are looking at about 10 days after conception before a blood test could be accurate.

Very early, within days. The hormones levels increase by the thousands on a daily basis. It can be detected before urine and is more accurate.

I had a blood test done a few weeks after I thought I got pregnant. It said I wasn't. I waited one more week and took a urine test to find out that I was. The urine test caught it at 4 weeks and was A LOT cheaper than a blood test.
