Crunchy for eating, like on toast or a PJ&B
Smooth for cooking - peanut butter soup, chicken with a peanut butter crust, peanut butter cookies - for those, smooth.
But better made at home, because the commercial stuff has so much sugar added, you lose the taste of the peanut.
