You poor thing. Its so common. I used to have the same problem. I used to be so exhausted in the morning!
Oneday I realised though that the fears I was having are really rare. The reason why I hear about them on the news and stuff is coz they are rare...thats why they are on the news! IF someone were to break in I concluded I would just give them my money - no big deal. CHances of assault and other stuff are pretty slim, especially coz I have taken all the precautions - I leave a light on. I have cleared bushes and stuff away from the front of my property, I have security, I know my neighbours. Taking all the precautions you can will give you a sense of security.
Also, not sure if you are 'into' natural remedies, but I bought some lavender oil, diluted it, and sprayed it onto my pillow, doona and bed. It REALLY WORKS! I sleep like a baby.
Also, again, not sure if you are religious, but I use as my 'mantra' 2Timothy 1:7
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Saying that to myself whenever I get into fear and have frightened thoughts really does help.
You are not crazy. I hope you can get over this. I think you can. Now I actually enjoy my peaceful times alone at night - I hope you can too.
All the best.

I hate being alone at night for that same reason. Every little noise that I do not expect puts me on high alert and all the doors need to be closed so I can tell if anyone is opening them. I think it's a normal safety mechanism we all have.

Sweetheart,
The only thing you can do to stop being afriad is to protect yourself. You should go to the gym and enroll in self-defense classes or things like it. I have the same problem as you but I was abused as a child. That type of feeling doesn't go away, you need to find a way to beat it. You gain self-confidence, protect yourself, and protect your home in a way, (getting bolt-locks, a dog, etc..) Always remember, you can't change the past but you can CHANGE THE FUTURE!!!
luck.

Listen to music.
No, I was serious! Why did I get a little thumbs down rating thingy? Music really helps because you're focused on the music and not what's happening around you. Unless you wanna be like the chika below me who sleeps with a gun, but hey, whatever comforts you the most....

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

It's natural. That happens to me whenenver I'm home alone for the night. I sleep with a gun, so that helps. And what are the chances, really, that someone is gonna break in to your home?
