Would it be wise to try and give a 2 month old a bed time? He usually falls asleep around 9 and then wants to eat at midnight. Would it be a good idea to put him down alone after the feeding he has around 9? I want to get him on some sort of bed routine since he has made himself a feeding routine quite easily.

You don't have to read a book to learn how to put your baby to sleep.
But I would reccomend a bedtime starting now. I had a "bedtime routine" for my baby since she was about 1 month. she has been sleeping through the night since 8 weeks.....no reading required.

Every baby is different. I have been trying to have a routine for my baby since very early on, but it worked only when she was 6 months old. She's now 8 months but rarely sleeps through the night even though her schedule is quite regular. You gotta be very patient. Don't rush into trying to feed her solid food too early just to get her to sleep through the night. It doesn't work and it is not recommended. You should wait until your baby is at least 4 to 6 months old. Good Luck.

Yes at that age it's a good time to start looking at putting him to bed at the same time every night if it works with his feeding routine.

We've started our 2 month old on a routine starting 6:30 where we give him a bath, feed him, rock him (in a dim room w/ soft music) and we're done by 7:30. he now knows when we run the water and gets really quiet :), almost like he's getting ready. by then end of all that, he's nice and sleepy. every night it's getting easier. good luck!

A 2 month old has no idea of time. He eats when he is hungry and sleeps when he is tired. That is what he knows. Right now your on his schedule, when he is older then set a bed time. Put him down alone as long as you are sure that he is okay.

That's a great way to start! In fact, it what I did with my son. I started his schedule around is natural sleep timings. I'd arrange his feedings and play time around that and it worked great for both of us. He naturally fell into the pattern and at eleven months its still working out great!

Yup, sounds like a good plan. Kudos to you. Establishing a routine and helping him sleep on his own as early as possible will only benefit you both.

Read the book, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Marc Weissbluth. It'll explain in there how to get your child on a proper sleep schedule.
