Actually, the United Socialist Soviet Republic USSR, used to be the largest country, followed by Canada, BUT since it's break up, Russia itself is much smaller with many of the republics now being independent small countries ie. Kazakhstan, Republic of Georgia, Estonia, Latvia. So in landmass area Canada is now the largest with an area of 9,976,140 sq.km, next followed by the USA with an area of 9,629,091 sq.km (don't know in miles)
