I recommend going to Google and putting in FGM and Islam in the search bar. See what you pull.

(I'm not against Islam and Muslims and I am not intending to offend them with what I write.) I hope what you said was right. But then just take a look at the status of women in the Islamic communities. Muslim women have always been considered to be the property of men. The Koran tells us that a woman can be beaten for acts of disobedience. In Arab nations, women have little or no part in politics, in affairs of the family, and even in their religious rituals. "Men are superior to women on account of the qualities with which God hath gifted the one above the other, and on account of the outlay they make from their substance for them." (from Sura 56) I guess Muslim men have little regard for the "lesser sex". According the the Koran, God made women inferior to men. I don't think all Muslim women agree...but then if they think otherwise, well, I'm not pretty sure what will become of them.

Women's circumcision is against Islam, and it is not encouraged in the Koran. Some countries do it based on cultural reasons and not religion.

I'm Muslim by the way and for your question .
Every male MUST do that and usually we do it for him immediately after birth , But for the female in our religion its not recommended or its not likable for them so they don't but in some of Islamic country's they do that for women like Egypt as an example but most of them don't .
Good Luck .

"female circumcision" is a misnomer. nothing is circumcised. it involves removal of the clitoris and in many cases all of the external genital tissue as well, serving to make sex not just unenjoyable, but excruciatingly painful for the rest of her life. that is why most educated people call it FGM, female genital mutilation.
i am not aware of any religious reason for its existance, but as a cultural tradition it is practiced in many islamic countries.

An act that may be thought of, yet never acted upon; a very shameful act indeed.
