you need to put the idea on paper take it to your patient office who will give you far better advice and legal info they will do a seach to see if it has been done before or if its close to another idea you can get it protected in your country or global
this costs money i have done it and you have to keep up payments for protection

Yes you can patent and idea. But the problem is you may spend a lot of moent getting patent approved to find someone uses your IDEA with a slight variance and achives the same out come and capitalises on yout original. They may even trade of your website by setting up theirs as if it is all part of the same system. Legal intervention is a waste of time as you cannot say it is EXACTLY the same. By the way what was the idea?

you have to patent the idea cost about 4 to 5 thousand and then create a model and present it or try to "sell" it patents last so long. ..
