He has always liked to draw, though likes to copy pictures (mainly cartoon types e.g pokemon). His precision is great and in proportion. He also has excellent imagination and so we are encouraging him to create his own characters. Is there a way we can get a professional opinion on his potential

I would suggest either to speaking to a local art teacher or artist, although as he draws Pokemon style, which called Anime or Manga, which a traditional artist may not know alot about. I would suggest joining a on line art community and get advice from people who does what your son does for a living. Deviant art is a great place, a home to alot of professional Anime and manga artists from the UK to Japan. Also try http://www.tokyopop.com its a comic site for manga and anime art, and they are always on the look for new talent. I would suggest joining their forum and get a professional constructive opinion from their in house artists. If you ever showcase his art please let me know! as a budding anime artist myself, I find it great to view raw talent.

Look for a magnet school in your area that specializes in the arts. They'll encourage and fine-tune his talents for any number of future careers: fine arts, illustration, architecture, textile design, marketing, etc

You won't find a legitimate publisher to print his works if all he's doing is copying other artists' works. If he does, however, create his own designs from his own imagination, that's a different story.

Also be aware that it's hard enough for a good adult artist to get his works published; a kid would have much tougher time of it, even if he is the next Vaughn Bode or Charles Schulz.

Andrea please leave your son to do his art don't push him let him decide let the course of growing up behold him yes he maybe talented and great but i feel by your want to have his work published is pushing him to far keep his work save let him be the little boy when he is older he can take that road himself your job is to let him live as a little boy enjoy child hood you only get one shot at it he will be a better artist in the future if he has lived life to the full instead of being pushed to be grown up as an adult i am not being nasty i work with children and one huge problem today is the parent wanting for their offspring to be the best and rob them of there childhood let him develop naturally if he is good he will be recognised with a book or no book be proud of him and give him space sorry if this sounds i am getting on your case i am not and be proud Dave

you can self publish a book & create a website to sell the book without investing anything but your time at:

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/books.aspx

You can also create a shop with cafepress.com that turns artwork into posters, magnets, cups, tee shirts, etc. again, like with the self-publishing, you can have a free shop and sell your items. again, no investment needed. cafe press prints on -demand when someone places an order & ships it directly to the customer. you determine your prices, which also determines your profits.

you can promote your items anywhere: your church, school, job, or through myspace.
