As someone that used to drive tow truck several years ago, I can tell you that it is appreciated to receive a tip. No, it is not required nor expected, but it is a morale booster.

Unless the driver is the owner of the company that dispatched the truck, it is considered good form and manners to offer a tip. I would suggest $ 5.00 as a good tip. If the driver refuses the tip, just be gratious and thank him. I would perhaps write a brief note to his employer stating that he did a good and professional job.

This answer all depends on the circumstances that surround the situation... What was the weather like, was it late at night, middle of no-where, did he just happen to drive up, But Most Important: Was he polite and professional??? If any of these were true then yes... It sounds like you might of missed the opportunity to let him know that you were gratefully of his services. You can still contact the company and let them know that you were pleased with his professionalism...

I totally and completely agree with rob1963ma -- the guy performed a service, and service should be tipped, especially if he did it in bad weather or in a dangerous place - ie:side of a busy freeway.

It's the ethical thing to do. He's performing a manual service for you in the same manner that a waitress is performing a manual service for you.
In the end, it's up to you.

He is like anyone else in the service industry. He would certainly appreciate it, but it is not OWED to him.
If he offered you good and timely service, was courteous and you appreciate his performance and attitude, certainly tip him.
Happy Motoring
