I had my 20 week ultrasound yesterday. Everything looks great, and we found out that we're having a baby boy, but he was being stubborn and wouldn't let the doc get a good profile pic. So all we have are pics of a foot, the arms, and the one of the boy parts.. (yeah, he already knows how to moon, lol) I was really looking foward to having one of those great profile pics to show off and send to my family. Do they give you another u/s in a normal pregnancy? And can I request one even though there isn't anything wrong?

One is the norm. There are places that you can go that do untrasounds and an entire video of it. You can google for them. I think that it is relatively inexpensive.

Congratulations

The number of ultrasounds you get during your normal pregnancy depends on your doctor, and more so on your insurance. Doctors do not mind doing the ultrasounds, but they are only going to do what your insurance authorizes for a normal pregnancy, or what you are willing to pay for!
I only got one ultrasound during my first pregnancy, because I was active duty military, and at a military hospital, and they only did one, even though my pregnancies are always high risk. Unfortunately, I was only seven weeks, so I had 33 more weeks to wonder anything about my baby, and no idea what the sex was. Be thankful that you are able to have one and that your pregnancy is normal. However, your doctor might be able to code your paperwork (or fudge it a little) and get you another one in a couple of weeks! I hope so for you, as it is always exciting to have that little view of our sweeties! Good luck!

One or two are usually done in normal pregnancies. I got two done, one about 3 months(b/c thats the first time i went to see a doctor) and the other almost a 5 1/2. One to confirm pregnancy and due date and the other to see if the baby is developing normally.

No - they shouldn't give you any other ultrasounds this pregnancy unless there is something wrong. They certainly shouldn't give you one because you didn't get a good picture. Me, for one, wanted to know the sex of the baby and baby wouldn't cooperate. But there was no option to go back and "look again" for anything other than medical reasons.

no not normally there is no need for anothe routene scan after 20 weeks unless your babys growing to slow or to fast. other than that i wouldnt have another scan as the rays from the ultra sound device acctully are shown to heat up babys cells sending back the information now that cant be good if you have to many.

good luck you will meet ya wee buba soon enough a real life cuddle is better than a photo n e way.

I had 2 until they thought there were complications with my pregnancy. One in the beginning to help determine a due date and the second was the one at 20 weeks.

They usually only give one. You can request one, but your insurance may not pay. Now if there is any complications or your baby is large, etc towards the end of your pregnancy, then they may order another one. My son was over 10lbs at birth. In my 8th month (almost 9th month) they thought he would be big and thats why they ordered another one. Good luck and congrats on your baby

I had one at 21 weeks, 1 at 35 weeks ( first ultrasound showed possible placenta previa, so I had a 35 week one done as well)
I am currently 37 weeks

Just one if all is ok. If you are having a normal pregnancy you might have to pay out of pocket for another ultrasound.

If you would really like anther for the picture then talk to the doctor about it. But your insurance may not help cover it since there was nothing wrong since one is normal for a good pregnancy.
