can a inside heat pump unit that is upright be installed on it's side?
this is the part for the inside of the house.

Based on the design, considering the coils and pieces inside the unit, I would say NO. If it was made as an upright unit, then it has to be installed as an upright unit.

If you mean the air handler then the answer is maybe. Some units are designed to be on there side, others are not and still others can go either way. If the unit has the compressor in it, then the answer is no.

For sure not. The inside condensing coil has baffles in it that drain the condensate. In putting it on its side, it will cause the coil to drain right into your furnace blower below.

You can buy a surplus new coil very cheaply at www.usamfg.net and solve your problem easily.
