No, no , no , no.......your milk is NOT drying up!!
Sorry, honey but I had to get that out first! lol....no really I am sure that your milk is fine. I want to ask you how old your baby is but I can't do that so I will have to wing it.
First of all let me tell you that the amount of milk that you are able to pump out is in no way indicative of how much milk you have! Many mothers cannot pump out any quantity of milk but when they nurse their babies there is plenty! Sometimes your milk will not "let down" when you pump and if that is the case you are not going to be able to pump more than 1 or 2oz's out.
The best indication of how much milk you have is the satifaction level of your baby. Do not try to figure out how much milk you have, that is a waste of your time and more than likely not correct.
Let your baby nurse as often as she wants to for awhile, just to reassure yourself that he is not hungry and if your milk supply was waning a bit this will perk it right back up.
Please, do not start to doubt yourself! That is the worst thing that you can do and it is deathly to your nursing relationship with you baby! You are all that your baby needs and your body will produce all that she needs to eat! She does not need anything else but what you are giving her.
Now, if you were telling me that she was crying constantly and not having an appropriate number of wet diapers, I might be concerned. I am not hearing any of that. All I am getting is really that you are not having success pumping out your milk! That is a common problem and has nothing what so ever to do with whether or not you have sufficient milk for your baby!
You say that you have not changed anything as far as your diet or what you have been doing so there is no reason to think that there is anything wrong with your milk.
Mothers successfully nurse their babies until they are two years old and even older. I personally nursed all of my babies (4 of them) until they were well over 1 year old. I would have nursed them longer but they weaned themselves and when they are done, they are done. Please don't think that there is anything wrong with your milk supply, I am sure that there is not. Why would there be? I could never manage to pump more than a few ounces of milk out but I did nurse my babies until they were about 6 months old and never had to add solid food to their diets until then. All of my babies were chubby and healthy, I even had enough milk to nurse my cousins baby sometimes. I had lots of milk but never could pump much out.
We are trained to reach for a can of formula at the slightest thought that we might not have enough milk. Imagine that there is no such thing as formula and the milk that you make is the only possible source of nourishment for your baby! There, now you have the right attitude. You can do this. Your milk is so far superior to anything that is manmade that there is NO comparison. Man has still not been able to duplicate breastmilk! There is just no substitute for it, it is superior in every way. If you give your baby formula, every ounce that she drinks is one less ounce of breastmilk that she will drink. Do you really want to make such an awful substituition? Your baby is counting on you to make the right decision.
If you need any more encouragement or if you doubt what I am telling you, please go to www.lalecheleague.org The La Leche League is the worlds foremost authority on breastfeeding. At their website there is a place where you can ask questions or ask for help. Someone will get back to you pretty quickly. Please write to them and ask them the question you have posed her. I promise you they will tell you the same thing I have.
By breastfeeding your baby you are giving him the most precious gift that you can give him next to life itself. The health benefits alone make it worthwhile. I do not need to tell you what the emotional benefits are, if you have been nursing your baby then you already know.
Trust me dear, your milk supply is fine. Please write to me at Lady_Trinity_9@yahoo.com and I will be sure to write back. I can answer any questions that you might have in regard to breastfeeding.
What ever you do, do not resort to giving your sweet baby any formula. To do so would be to regress past a point that you have already overcome. You have gone this far without it, do not doubt yourself and think that she needs it now. She does not.
I hope to hear from you.
Love and Blessings
Lady Trinity~ p.s. I love what junenorth had to say! She had some good ideas. I really like the one about skin to skin contact and just cuddling up in bed with your baby! She is right!

Call a your laleache league leader (www.lalecheleague.org/) right away. You could try a nipple shield to get her/him to latch on. A babies mouth will ALWAYS get more out of the breast then any pump on the market. If the baby is latching onto a bottle, he/she will latch onto the shield.

You need to relax, drink lots of water, and have skin to skin contact as much as possible to produce more milk. Take your shirt off, get the baby undressed and get in bed together and watch movies all day. Believe me your milk production will increase.

Call an expert! Try kellymom.com too. Sounds like you are great mom just trying to do the best for your baby.. Believe me once you get the hang of breastfeeding you will be SO happy you did. It becomes so easy.

Best of luck.

Stress, lack of sleep, medications, not drinking enough water, baby drinking less, .. there are a lot of reasons. Best thing, try not to stress about it, try feeding your baby more frequently, try pumping in between feedings. There are some other things you can try, i would suggest you speak to your doctor - there is even some medication that can help you if you need it.
I will say that it was very surprising to me how much stress affected my supply - - VERY surprising. I went back to work after three months and got put on a major project, that zapped me really quickly, once that project ended, I was back to the way I was before.

Pumping isn't as effective in keeping up your milk supply as nursing is. Help your daughter learn how to latch, or you may lose your milk all together!

Are you talking about your milk production being lowered? It's unclear from your question. If that's the case, it could be because you've reduced your intake of food/drink...you need to be well nourished to be at your most productive. It could also be that you're demanding more from your body than usual, and it needs some time to catch up. Don't worry, it will. After a couple of days of higher demands, you will notice more productivity. Good luck!
