"Bridge to Terabithia" is a classic. It's a wonderful, wonderful book. I would definately read it, and personally I would skip the movie. The movie makes Terabithia into a real, magical land. In the book, it wasn't real. It was an imaginary place where the boy and the girl could escape from their real world problems. It's a great book about friendship and loss. You should totally read it.
(I haven't seen the movie and I am not going to.)

There was a movie?! They made us study the book for English in year 8 , it is outdated and crummy (even in 1998) , I didn't like the characters , I couldn't relate to it at all. I found it haunting in a mundane manner , the unexpected was a little too unexpected and do yourself a favour, I have read a lot of good books , and there are plenty of better ones than that out there!

NO!!! When my class read this book, we hated it! Everyone in class agreed. We even saw the sucky old movie adaptation, and it bit! Big time! It looked like it was filmed with a personal movie camera and $100 in the 80's! The new movie looks way better.
