In general, for women who have rough periods (heavy bleeding, bad cramps, etc) is pregnancy a welcome relief? Or do the menstrual problems make it more likely to be complications in the pregnancy?

My mother was on perscription pain pills early in her young adult life because her cramps were so bad, she told me that the 18 months she was pregnant, 9 for my brother and 9 for me, were the best 18 months of her life until she got a hysterectamy, and that she said was the best decision she ever made in her reproductive life (besides us kids) so yes I think that pregnancy can be a relief. She also never suffered from morning sickness either.

Not sure that it can be considered a relief. Yes most times the lack of a period is great news for women who experience hard periods but a pregnancy comes with so many new sypmtoms and sometimes complications. Pregnancy does come with a great reward though.

Yes, it was nice to go through pregnancy with no cramps, bleeding etc..I really enjoyed that part of it...I use to have horrible cramps and ever since I had kids, I have never had cramps again. Still have all the rest of the problems tho!

What your periods are like does not indicate what your pregnancy is going to reflect. If you have heavy bleeding and cramping you may go on and have a great, very normal pregnancy.

I was certainly relieved by the lack of menstrual cramps, etc. during my first pregnancy. I also found that after I had given birth that my PMS symptoms eased and I have a lighter flow.

Welcomed relief for me!

I got my Mirena IUD taken out to try and have another baby. It took over a year and I amost gave up a few times because I just can't deal with the periods. FINALLY got pregnant! WOOT, and am now 40w + 1d pregnant. I'm NOT looking forward to waiting to get the IUD put back again. My husband said he'd get snipped and I said NO WAY i'm not dealing with the periods again, so why bother... gimmie that IUD thanks.

BTW pregnancy went well, no worries about that having any effect.

I don't know if pregnancy would be considered a relief, but for eight of the nine months I was without the monthly migraine. That was a definate plus

My periods were never particularly bad but never the less I still hate them. Not having one has been great although being pregnant has brought me more problems than just cramps and bleeding
