He continues to be verbally bullying and I am trying to get an uncontested divorce., which means I'm trying to be friendly while he tells me what he wants. I don't understand why he can't be more compromising and less difficult?

Duh. If you 2 could cooperate you wouldn't be getting a divorce.
why would you even have expectations of someone you can't get along with "being nice" during a divorce. Divorces aren't fun, you just try to get through them.

He may have an agenda against you for some reason and it may be that he has no intention of being compromising on anything during the divorce proceedings. You should not worry so much about his attitude but instead be concerned as to the way you are treating him and if he wants to be obnoxious then let him but you stay civil and don't let yourself drop down to his level of thinking or behaving.

It depends on what he is giving you a hard time about.
Is he looking for answers (like why you are leaving)? If you don't have answers for those questions, it will continue to bother him until he comes up with some answers on his own.
Is he fighting over stuff? Maybe he actually wants the stuff, maybe he's greedy, maybe he's just trying to be a jerk.
Divorces aren't nice, no matter what. It's an ugly, ugly thing. If you are trying to be gentle about it, but he isn't able to accept that, you probably just need some space. Be firm with the fact that it is over and then try to get some space.

Forget it. It will never be friendly if he is acting like this now. It's now a business deal. My brother-in-law told me this in the beginning of my divorce; and it's so true. Forge ahead.
