Betta genetics are very complex. Even if you mate a solid red male to a solid red female you will get a few babies that are not solid red, even with the best stock. If you have pet shop bettas you are practically guaranteed to get a huge mix of 2 and 3 color fish with lots of clear spaces in the finnage. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but that is what will happen.

With pet store betta they will likely show a wide variety colors. Unless you are breeding from a known stable line you can't predict the outcome of a mating.

PS- You might want to read up on breeding bettas. Females don't just lay eggs. Mating is complex.

The male Betta will care for eggs, of both sexes by placing it in the bubble nest. You can see the eggs, because the nest will be look like a small snow cone, some what shaped like a like the kisses candy. Otherwise the nest will look flat with lots of bubbles. Baby betta should be feed live newly hatched brine shrimp three days after being hatched. tropicalfish50
