i have the echoes, the best of cd by pink floyd and the song i wish you were here is on it but i feel like i have heard that song by another artist. mabey it was sjut a differnet version by floyd... could someone please help me.

its pink floyd, they wrote it after syd barrett got committed and left the band.

Nope "Wish You Were Here" is a Pink Floyd original. It was written about ex band member Syd Barrett who left the band/was kicked out because of drug/mental problems. He went on to release two solo albums before becoming a total recluse. Whilst I don't think there was evidence it was pretty much known that he had mental issues and thats what the albums Wish you were here and Dark side of the moon are about.
I don't know if anyone has covered this particular song but there are other songs with the same title but they are different e.g. Wish You Were Here by incubus.

Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

I'm sure that there were many remakes, but nothing beats the original. You can find it on the fourth track (third?) of the album Wish You Were Here. The whole thing's packed with great songs, though.
