If creating a system that can be taken out of the box and as is it can play games including all ps2 games , you can watch dvd's including homemade, it plays blue ray, and without additional updates or hardware it is full hd capable up to 1080 , It comes with a 60gig hard drive, you can hook a 160gig external drive up and access and play thousands of mp3 and mp4's and it can shuffle music like the ipod, you can surf the internet as well as enjoy online gaming through wifi or through direct ethernet, you can game share with your psp, and it is bluetooth capable. I have only scratched the surface of what it's out of the box capabilities are for you to tinker with.
The only failure Sony had was in it's marketing and distribution of the system. If the system had been more widely available surpressing the ebay marketeers ability to buy 85 % of the systems and price gouge the unit on the net, then Ps3 would have easiliy out sold all the systems before christmas.
We are owners of all the game systems and have been testing all of them. They are all remarkable systems and your preference in purchasing should be based on your personal gaming needs and preferences.

Quit believing all the "PS3 sucks" people, because they're wrong. Think about it, Sony has only shipped a couple million of them, so how many of these "it sucks" people have actually played it? And out of those, how many have played it long enough to justify being able to give a full review on it's qualities and vices? Few, if any.
I own a PS3, and it's the greatest gaming system ever. Watching blu-ray movies and having the entire system available with just the wireless controller is sweet. I really liked that the controllers are so light despite being wireless. The hard drive is huge, and gaming in 1080p is unbelievable. The 360 isn't even capable of 1080p. Yes it is expensive, but you get what you pay for, and it's evident from the minute you turn it on. The only problem I've had with the PS3 is that now I don't want to do much else but play it.
As far as 360 goes, I have spent plenty of time with it and I'm unimpressed. It just seemed to me like Microsoft took an original Xbox, put it in a new case and upgraded the processor and graphics card.

It's still too early to call it a failure. You'll have to wait a whole year after the release to decide if it's a failure or not. The launch surely is a failure because of the lack of good exclusive games that are available. The months following the launch is a failure because there hasn't been any good games worth buying.
But come later this month and throughout the year, the PS3 should be getting a lot more games that are worth buying. If people aren't buying those games, then you can say the PS3 is a failure. But if people are buying those games, then the PS3 wouldn't be called a failure.
Is the PS3 way better than the 360? Yes it is, if you ask the Japanese. But for American, it's split.

The PS3 is not a failure. It is a very sophisticated gaming console that is more powerful than most computers. The most people that put it down complain because of its price. A Blu-Ray disc player cost $999, and the PS3 (which is also a Blu-Ray player) is only $599. Before people complain about the price they need to look at the features the PS3 offers that justify its price. The PS3 is worth much more than $600 and is far more sophisticated than any Nintendo or Microsoft gaming console.

Its not a failure, but Sony will not have the stranglehold it had on the market with PS2. XBOX has many loyal followers now that we've reached the next generation, and Nintendo is hitting high on the charts because its gamble paid off with Wii. Personally i think Nintendo is on track to define itself once again as the top dog, but PS3 will work out its bugs and become a more solid system, sony will just lose alot of money first.

It's not exactly a 'failure'. It's just that to invent something new, they spend a lot of money, which they get back from sales, but if not that many playstation 3s are sold, then they don't get all of their invested money back, so they end up losing.
It's true that many more people choose X-box now(it's in very popular demand), so I guess not that many people are interested in playstation anymore.
