Quick question.. I am about to lose my mind because my son keeps throwing up.. he's done this every night for the past couple of weeks.. it's like..

1. I feed him
2. He throws it up
3. I clean him up and he screams and sucks on his hand like he's hungry again..
4. I feed him again
5. He throws it up
6. REPEAT

You get the picture.. Anyways.. I have NO clue what is wrong with him. I'm a first time mother..

I've already taken him to the doctor twice.. and she's already suggested rice cereal and we've switched his formula.. but nothing seems to work.

It only happends at night.. and I don't understand that part either. Any suggestions? PLEASE?

How old is your baby? How is he burping, is he getting any good burps out? If he is not burping well, he may just be throwing up because of the gas...it's hard to know for sure...If your baby is under 4 months old, they shouldn't have cereal anyway...introducing foods too early can cause allergies...

If it were me, I would take him to see a doula or public health nurse, depending on what is available in your area, who, in my personal opinion, are a lot more in tune with the nutritional needs of babies...

If this doesn't work, go see another pediatrician...

this is a hard row to hoe, hon, and I do feel for you...

And perhaps the most important thing is to make sure you have a good support system around you...you need to have you taken care of before you can take care of anyone or anything else...

it will get better!

I have been awake in the night with a throwing up baby that seems to be do so for no explicable reason...

I hope it goes all right for you...

Are you sure that he does not have pyloric stenosis? It sure sounds like it. Of course it would depend on how old he is and how long he has been having these symptoms. Does he have projectile vomiting at all?
It sure sounds like pyloric stenosis. Have you asked your doctor about that?
Good luck and I hope you get to the bottom of this.
Lady Trinity~ **BTW, after reading all the answers that you have gotten I did want to add that I agree with the lady that said your baby is too young to have rice cereal added to his diet. But then again we don't know how old he is, we are assuming that he is an infant less than 4 mths old. I know I will be criticized for saying this but it is never too late to start breastfeeding. Even if you don't have any milk right now it would be soothing to him and it would make him feel comforted and happy. Next time he starts chewing on his hand why don't you see if he would like to nurse. I bet he would know just what to do. Plus letting him nurse would undoubtedly cause you to start making milk. It is never too late to try. If you were at all interested you could contact La Leche League for details about how to go about it. Maybe this little guy just really needs his own mommy's milk. I would think it would be worth a shot. Of course I would still take him to the doctor and maybe even get a second opinion. Make sure that there is nothing medically wrong before you make any more changes in his diet. Letting him nurse would still be okay because even if you had milk, babies are not allergic to their mothers milk. I only mention this to you because I truly care about the women that I respond to. I know it will make the bottle feeding mothers mad but I would not be trying to help you if I did not share what I know with you. I hope everything works out all right for you. I will be thinking of you and your precious baby.**

From my experience it sounds like your baby has trapped gas!!! Especially since it is at the end of the day. My son did the same thing..... He is sucking on his hand because he is uncomfortable and he doesn't know what else to do. I have an 11 week old daughter and she started to show signs of that too and I bought a product called www.colicalm.com and it has worked wonders for her gas!!!
My advise..... DON"T feed him anymore until he settles down. Either try the colic calm or any gas drops for that matter and see if that helps. My grandmother always told me to put a hot dish towel (from the dryer) on their bellys too. That will help him to calm down and go to sleep. Do you have a hot water bottle? THat works wonders for my daughter too.... I fill it up and set her in her bouncer and lay it across her belly and she falls asleep. I recently changed her bottles and that helped too!!! Good Luck!!!!

Maybe he is allergic to regular formula. Try soy formula. If that doesn't work, try nutramigen it is from Enfamil. It is expensive, but it worked for my baby (who is now 10). If you have WIC, they will let you get that kind, but only with a doctors note. I can't believe your doctor didn't suggest that. Or one thing is maybe you are over feeding him. If he sucks on his hand, maybe he just wants to suck. All babies do that for comfort or something to do. Give him a binky.
Good luck.

Talk to another doctor it sounds like acid reflux and if it's not then it's gas. It is like when you take a big gulp of water and then you burp and the water comes back-up.Same thing happens to babies. Try to feed the baby sitting upright and burp frequently this should resolve the problem if not.SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR. Good Luck!

Tell the doc that the Gentlease is not working. Try Enfmail AR. It works great for babies who throw up alot. use the appropriate flow nipple on the bottle. Burp after 2 to 3 ounces.

you don't say how old baby is. I would say after the last nite bottle, don't lay him down so quickly. If you have to, even if he falls asleep, you ned to keep him upright. Sometimes until they are 6 mos, they have esophagus reflux. The longer they're upright, the better they can digest it and let it go down.

Definitely call your Dr ASAP. If everything is OK I would try just letting him eat a tiny bit. Then is 20 minutes give him more. Then again. He may be eating too fast. My parents said I used to throw up after my bottle of milk. They said I drank it too fast. Well, I must have some memory of it b/c I won't drink it which is fine b/c the hormones in it are responsible for obesity, autism, and a ton of other things.

OH, I WOULD TRY PUTTING A SMALL AMOUNT OF ORGANIC APPLE CIDER VINEGAR IN HIS BOTTLE (JUST A SMALL AMOUNT B/C HE WON'T LIKE THE TASTE AND HE SOUNDS TINE...MAYBE1/4 OR 1/8 OR A TEASPOON). Apple CIDER VINEGAR HELPS WITH ACID REFLUX AND DOES NO HARM. GOOD LUCK

Everytime that you dr gives you something new to try and it keeps on happening then you need to call the dr again and talk to them. Also you should try and take the baby to another pediatrician and get their opinion.

You may even look into taking him to the hospital cause he will get dehydrated

If it's a darker color and not white, take him to the doctor. He may just have a stomach virus. But my cousin was on that formula and it make her spit up chunks. I would go to the doctor just to be safe. We took her to the doctor and he just said it was because she was too constipated [[she had constipation problems since she was born]]. But just to be safe, please take your child to the doctor. Good luck!
