My vote definitely goes for the dark Karo syrup, it worked like a charm. My baby started getting really gassy and constipated at about 2 weeks old, so we gave her a karo water bottle and by the next morning she was doing her duty. About 3 days later we had to give her another one, but after that, she goes like a pro all the time. We also started adding mylicon to her bottles( we get the walmart brand, way cheaper w/ bigger bottles) and that helps her w/ the gas, which isn't fun either. Also, someone said bicycle her legs, that works great too- s/he may fuss a bit at first and tense up a little, but keep doing it for like a half hour. My roommate, mother of 4, did that to my little one and no kidding, it brought it right out. I was hesitant to give my brat any juices because she's not supposed to have anything but formula for at least 4 months, but we dip her binky in sugar when she gets the hiccups and it works, and basically Karo is the same thing. Good luck!

I used the Karo syrup as well. But I had to put it in all her bottles. she was on formula thickened with rice starch. So I would add a few drops to each bottle, and was she was regular as can be.
You have to remember that you are the baby's mother and you decide. My daughter did not have a bowel movement for 3 days! the doc said to just give her some watered down pear juice. But I could not wait that long. My sister (a nurse) said to use half of a glycerin suppository. I did......she filled 2 diapers! my mom suggested the Karo, and I started that the next day. she was fine ever since. she went once per day. some people say that babies are only constipated if they have hard stools. But I could not allow my poor baby to go three days without pooping again! she was so miserable. she was much better when we started the Karo. As she started on solid foods, we decreased it. now she only gets 16oz of formula per day, and she is Karo free. Unless she eats bananas, then she gets a few Karo drops in her bottle as bananas bind her right up.
And prior to what some will tell you, Karo does not cause botulism.......that is honey.
Karo is an indigestible sugar that draws water into the bowel tract making the stool easier for baby to pass. it does not harm the baby.

I used the Little Tummy's Gas Relief Drops. it's for newborns and worked most of the time. I didn't try the Little Tummy's Gripe Water so not sure if that would've worked better. you might want to give both a try. It depends if it's really constipation. if the baby just looks like it hurts to poo but if the poo isn't hard, then it's not constipation, just gas.

Babies that are nursing don't have B.M.s for the first week or so. All of the colostrum gets used in thier body. If your baby really has gone a long time without a b.m. I'd write down every ounce that goes into her and record every weet diaper for a couple of days then take her to the doctor.Do not use enimas they are very traumatic and damaging to the newborn's psych. The doctor may give you something oral. PEACE.

you baby is constipated. if he is on a bottle and the poop is hard it will pass, if he is breastfed and it's hard you might want to go to How old is your baby? I tried this when my little one was 3 weeks old.
Try eating dried prunes and raisins that could help the baby poop easier. Also what you could do is put some olive oil or petroleum jelly (olive oil works Better) on a q-tip and gently stick it into his anus when you expect that he is trying to go, you can do this up to 5 times a day but don’t over use it. You can also put a little boiled water in a syringe and once again gently push it into his anus, that will water down the poop and allow it to pass easier, but that can be done about 2 times a day. Good luck

The pediatrician told me that they will recommend this to a baby as young as two days old. Giving this to the baby will not harm them in anyway, will not dehydrate and even if the baby isn't really constipated, it won't harm/hurt or cause discomfort.
2 oz of warm water
1 oz of DARK Karo Corn Syrup (must be dark)
shake, give to baby.
worked every time, gently with in 12 - 24 hours

Try DARK karo syrup. It is a natural laxative for babies. Make sure you use the dark and not the white or clear karo as it will constipate. One or two measuring teaspoons per 4 ounces of formula. I used this with both of my sons and it works.

I read online that you can give them 1/2 ounce of apple juice with 1/2 an ounce of warm water and that should do the trick. I usually do a warm bath and a belly message and that helps. Also, you may want to call you dr. it is odd for a newborn to be constipated... Not abnormal just odd!!! Good Luck!!

It depends on how 'new' the baby is. call the dr. for advice if the baby is less than two weeks otherwise a little water (not more than 1 ounce) a couple of times a day and belly rubs and bicycle legs. The dr may recommend glycerin suppositories, mine did they are harmless to use but they don't want you to use them too often. you can get them over the counter
