The American College of Gynecology (ACOG) recommends that young women between the ages of 13 and 15 have their first gynecological visit. This first visit doesn't necessarily constitute an internal exam. Usually the internal exam and pap smear aren't required unless the young woman is sexually active. However, by 16 years of age, the ACOG recommends that young women have an internal exam and pap smear.

The gynocologist says that you should go every year starting after you first become sexually active... have sex once, then you should go... doesn't really have an age range, and that 18 years old deal is crap. you can be 11 and get a papsmear, you're just being cautious and careful.

The rule of thumb is you should start going when you first become sexually active or if you're not sexually active at all age 18.

So if you're like 16 and having or had sex, you should start going. If you are still a virgin age 18 is fine.

You should begin having them annually as soon as you become sexually active. This will help you become aware of any infections or STDs that you might have come in contact with. Also if you change partners frequently you might want to go more than once a year.

You should have your first pap at 18 or before you become sexually active to get on birth control. You need to go before your period in case you need to start birth control because the pill starts the first sunday after your period.

Either before you think your going to become sexually active or are sexually active, but if you don't fall under either of these categories the normal age is eighteen so they can see if everything is okay. I think it's eighteen because that's when your supposedly fully developed..

18, If you are sexually active you should also have a HPV test. Millions of women have it and don't know it. It is a virus that can give you cervical cancer.
