my windows xp crashed. will I lose all my files if I reinstall windows xp using a diferent disc than the original.

No you wont. Just use xp repair

If you are not reformatting the drive. Windows will replace the current operating system. This will have certain affects on files that are in C:\documents and settings and C:\windows.

You'll have to reinstall all of your applications and device drivers also.

Best to backup your data.

the windows xp disc will give you the option of backing up your files .
back up all files you want to keep to an additional disc, after you have reestablished xp, u can use the back up disc to reload your files .
