It really depends. If it's really exclusive and won't happen again in your lifetime (FIFA World Cup in Washington DC is my dream) I'd definitely spend in the neighborhood $1000. If it's and NBA game, that's not really that special and I probably wouldn't spend more than $100-$200. Most of those floor seats and sky-boxes you see are owned by companies because with taxes they're just about free.

either through ticketmaster or after the start of a game find a scalper. thats when their prices are the cheapest. when the game starts the just want to unload the remaining tickets they have on hand
