To reset the engine computer disconnect the battery for ten minutes and reconnect. See if the problem goes away. If not.......Possible Problem areas: dirty fuel injectors (use cleaner), clogged fuel filter (replace it), dirty throttle body and intake manifold (clean it), dirty air filter (replace it), bad spark plugs and/or wires (replace them), catalytic converter (sometimes comes with a rotten egg smell, have a mechanic confirm this), disconnected/damaged vacuum line (find and repair, sometimes located in odd locations), or worse yet you some electronic sensor or engine computer problems.

Assuming it's fuel injected, the first thing I'd do is thoroughly clean the throttle plate and bore with a toothbrush and household spray cleaning fluid. Carbon builds up all around the front and back side of the throttle plate which hinders the free flow of air around the plate at idle. Also clean the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve that the computer controls to keep your idle around 750 RPM at hot idle. Note that the engine does not stall after a cold start when the idle speed is held higher by the computer. Of course you always want to check all your basic tune up items like plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter etc.

I've had this problem before. Its an easy fix, go to a mechanic and ask them to do a diagnostic on the cars computer. My mechanic said 80% of the time the cars computer just needs to be fixed, some how the settings can change over long periods of time. If that is not the problem, he will most likely check your throttle body and fuel filter too. It is probobly nothing, and chances are it might cost $30. Good luck getting it fixed. Just out of curiosity how low do your rpm's drop usually when it stalls out. mine, when i would come to a stop just wouldnt stop going down, it took about 5 seconds and it stalled out at about 400 rpm and just shut off.

The idle speed can not be adjusted in this automobile so as that may no longer your difficulty. that is achieveable the IAC (Idle air administration) motor is going undesirable or the pathway is in part blocked. this may be your difficulty simply by fact while driving, the throttle plate is in part open bypassing the IAC, yet while at relax, the ECM takes administration of the air entering into the engine for the duration of the IAC to regulate idle somebody else reported the EGR and this would reason that difficulty besides. If the EGR isn't totally closed and permitting exhaust gases to circulate into the engine whilst idling, it would desire to reason this difficulty. extra many times, the diaphragm interior the EGR ruptures, broken vacuum line and it would not open in any respect inflicting a NOx difficulty throughout emissions attempting out.

make sure you have a good fuel filter - sometimes a gunked up fuel filter will run fine under throttle load because there is better fuel pressure but when you drop off the throttle and it starts to idle you arent getting enough fuel. try this first cause its an easy and cheap fix- less than 10 bucks for the actual filter.

I'd run some fuel injector cleaner through it and change the fuel filter. If that doesn't fix it, it could be your throttle position sensor.

You have an air leak at intake manifold..so,you are running in a lean mix, resulting in engine stall.

It may be do to the fact that the gasoline nowadays has so much ethanol in it. Your engine may have to be adjusted to idle correctly because of it.
