You know what , that seems to be one of the problems with black people in general. Just because you are a black person, what you listen to does not mean that you are any different. Black people are the only group of people that are always labeling people. Whether it's what kind of clothes you were, what you listen to, how you do your hair, if you go to a perochial school or private with predominantly caucasian ethnic people, you must be or acting white. I mean that's what I got in past. Immature dumb suggestions from good friends and family. I think that , and not demeaning anyone, but what you listen is your own right and it's not fair for people passing judgement. Iam a 27 year old black femal who that loves music in general, from starting off in early college years I completely crazy for "Cranberries", Irish rock alternative group from the early 1990's, have mostly all there cd's, still a devoted fan. I also love and have music from Celine Dion, latest fascination is Josh Groban, Michele Buble, a lot of old stuff, Stone Temple Pilots, Sarah Mclauhlin, Celtic music(like clannad, this is the most beautiful, mystifying music ever. There is R.E.M., Old blue eyes(Frank Sinatra), Dean Martin, Tonic, Filter, Linkin Park, to Evanescence(totally awsome too. Really old stuff like Smashing Pumpkins, Third Eye Blind. But just to know you are not a weird black girl, I'm on your side.
Keep on doin what to do, tell everybody else,
kiss it where the sun don''t shine.

Plz dont feel less of a black person because u like alternative music. I'm the same way ppl always look at me like I am weird because I shop at Hot Topic and because I love rock music. So don't feel stupid or dumb cuz there are a lot of those ppl out there. You just need to know where to find them.

your "blackness" should not be defined by what type of music you listen to. I love all types including alternative music. You are just a unique individual. Nothing you do can make you less "black". If your born black your black. You just be you and dont let nobody, including your family tell you your not black enough. Trust me i heard it before. Jimmy hendrix wasnt less black. jada pinkett smith is in a heavy metal band and said that tupac low key liked rock music. your not alone honey. ROCK ON!

Ask your Mom about Sly and the Family Stone, Jimmy Hendrix, Billy Preston, disco..... Music had (and shouldn't have) nothing to do with race. Don't feel dumb and have a good time.

Listen to whoever you want- the first white kids who listened to rock got a lot of static from people because it was supposedly 'black' music. Last time I checked, music doesn't have a color. It's about what you enjoy, not what you're 'supposed' to enjoy! Have fun with it, and have a great time at your shows.

Don't worry...you're gonna fit right in. True music lovers aren't gonna care what color you are.
On the other side...is Seal any less black because of the music he makes? I've seen him four times and last time I looked, I was still white, and he's still black (and gorgeous!!!!).

NOOOOOOOO! Your "blackness" is NOT defined by the type of music you listen to. (I saw a student film where they are exploring the topic of black people who listen to alternative music, so you are definitely not alone)
People say I'm not black because I "talk white." I think those generalization are so unfair.

no it makes you white trash !!!!
in all seriousness music is colorless as most other things are , the sooner you realize color is no big deal but there are differences in peoples cultures life gets much easier and you don't have to label things as racism just peoples lack of education or the fact that they are the bottom of the intelligence barrel

No, because in the 80's when MTV only showed rock music, I knew lots of people who enjoyed it. Music is music!!!!!!! It shouldn't be any color barriers.
