If its on drywall, you will need to cut out the lower 2 or 3 feet of the drywall as the mold is much worse on the inside that is visible on the outside.
Fortunately there is a long term answer nowdays. You can replace that molded drywall with a drywall that does not have a paper material as a coating it has a material of plastic, know in the chemical industry as Sontara, that has a paper feel, can be painted or wallpapered but will not mold. Lowes carries the stuff nowdays due to demand.

I live in FL where mold is a big problem, you might live in a less humid state where it's not such a big deal. But if you do live in a humid environment...
I would call a professional, you can get really sick from mold. Spraying bleach on the outside of the wall, won't help anything if the mold is on the inside of the walls.
If you have children, you could really be putting them in harm's way if you don't take care of the mold quickly. It could take over your whole house.

You can use any kind of bathroom mold cleaner. It should make sense that they would work, since they are designed for the elimination of mold in a homes typically mold probable locale.
Secondly, after treating the mold. You need to find out why it is occuring! A Leak? Close proximity to a bathroom and not enough ventilation?

Bleach will get rid of the mold but it will not keep it from coming back. Try using denatured alcohol. You can but it at most hardware stores. I live in Florida where we all have mold issues. Here is a good website for issues of mold too.

Do the bleach thing as suggested, then repaint the wall with mould prevention paint. Works a treat. And you are right about the coldest wall - its probably the coldest wall in the entire house - try keeping the window open a crack all the time.

I used to work for a disaster restoration company. If we found mold, we would seal off that part of the house, you don't want to disturb it and have it spread through the rest of your house. You need to physically remove the drywall. Vaccum any mold you can see. Anti microbials won't completely kill it, bleach doesn't kill it, you need to seal any affected area you see with KILZ, a brand of sealer available at any hardware store. I've seen people hospitalized because they became sick from mold, take it seriously.

you can use bleach in water to kill the mould. if the bleach leaves a smell you can usually neutralize it with a vinegar spray. but the method that really kills odor is a water and baking soda mix.
