Liberals just called Global Warming the SINGLE GREATEST THREAT TO MANKIND. I thought it was Osama and company (not Obama...yet).

The earth has changed temperatures throughout the billions of years it has been around - remember the ICE AGE anyone? Who caused that - we weren't even here!

I recycle. I carpool. I'm even in the process of installing solar panels on my house. The environment is of course important. But global warming is a farce. Not because it isn't potential, but because it's based on THEORY and is not proven. Most proof the liberals have relied on is subjective and therefore viewed in large as junk science.

Observations of global temperatures over thousands of years show that global temperatures fluctuated way before the industrial revolution. Furthermore global temperatures are impacted by many natural causes. This is not to say that we should throw out the theory entirely. However the rabid intensity in which Liberals have projected the global warming theory on the populace without enough true facts and the condecending manner in which they choose to push their sermons has turned off most of the rest of the country. It's a sad fact that even though there may be potential to the theory, Liberals are shooting themselves in the foot with their delivery.

Also ratifying the Kyoto Protocol would be a huge mistake as it only holds for 20% of the world exempting heavily populated industrial areas like China and India. If Liberals are worried about our economy as they claim, they should see the large mistake in this. Especially since it's still a theory.

I have to snicker everytime I hear "global warming" as it conjures up Victorian era ideas on air. The Victorians saw that urban areas were sicker and more succeptable to plagues and disease vs. rural areas. This was prior to any knowledge of germs. They falsely believed the "proven" theory that the world was running out of air and mankind was in grave danger of dying of within 100 years. Same fallacy.

As far as global warming in relation to terrorism. I am more worried about terrorism. I don't fear running out of air, but I do fear losing my family to terrorism. To those of you who believe this is my stupid brain falling prey to hype, I have to contradict you. My husband is Federal Law Enforcement. He spends over 40 hours a week in and out of a building that houses over 500 billion dollars of American currency at any given time. To say that my fear is unfounded is retarded especially to say it against the backdrop of "global warming". *snicker*

You thought wrong.

Terrorism is nothing new. It's serious, very serious... but it's not the greatest threat to mankind. You're thinking too small.

The obvious greatest threat to mankind is any disaster, natural or man-made, which affects the planet directly. In this class would be...

- A significantly sized meteor hitting the planet. (which will eventually happen.)

- An all-out thermonuclear war (which hopefully we can avoid).

- Massive climate change, whether man-made or not.

There's significant evidence right now that CO2 is increasing the temperature of the planet in an unprecedented way, and those changes could cause massive fatalities worldwide. They've already caused a large number if you consider significant storms like Katrina.

See, that global warming is happening is not up for debate. It is happening. How much of it is human-related and how much is natural is up for debate, but there's no doubt that some of it is caused by man.

If you think that Osama is a greater threat than the climate becoming inhospitable to mankind, you've missed the boat somewhere. Even more-so if you class Obama with Osama...

See, liberals unlike conservatives can focus on more than one threat at a time. Classifying global warming as a great threat doesn't declassify terrorism as a threat to our society.

It's pretty simple...

Global warming = threat to the world...

Terrorism = threat to our society.

World > Society in size. Mankind > our Society as well, if you count all people (and being a conservative, I'm not sure if you consider all humans people, you may well not.)

Edit: "The earth has changed temperatures throughout the billions of years it has been around - remember the ICE AGE anyone? Who caused that - we weren't even here!"

Umm...HELLO!

Whether man-made or not, climate change would still be catastrophic... whether warming or ice age... or do you like living under a glacier?

Well, it is, if they're correct. Even if it is naturally-caused because we are at the end of an Ice Age, we are still potentially in danger as a species due to the changing climate (proven).

At the same time, a lot of people are making an awful lot of money with the scare that MAN is causing it.

Y2K, anyone?

Osama only affects SOME of the world's population. This (theoretically) could affect all.

Whichever side is correct, I'm glad to have the discussion. I just wish people would stop "running off at the opinion".

Hey, in your favor, a conservative willing to ask questions and look at both sides - applause here! Without a world, terrorism won't be much of a threat would it? Read science journals, history books, take an environmental science class if anyone really wants to know. Most "liberals" know that some damage to the enviornment is unavoidable, what we aim for is not sacrificing the world for our own selfish and greedy needs. There is a happy medium, kind of like most states are purple, not red or blue........

Well....let's see, they need something else to talk about besides Iraq? Why do liberals do anything they do? Al Gore wrote his little book, Hollywood has made a movie out of it, and they will jump on-board. Look at it this way, if they are so concerned about Global Warming, they would drop the private jets, SUVs, etc. and lead by example. Fighting the War on Terror will takes a leader and there are no leaders in the Democratic Party.

Because Global Warming effects our breathing, effects our very source of life which is breath. You cannot live without breathing. You cannot live without food to eat. You cannot live without plants and foliage on the planet. You cannot live on this planet if the ocean starts giving off CO2 and sulfer rather than oxygen. Don't take my or liberals word for it. Read what the scientists from Yale, Harvard, Caltech, MIT and the climotogists way about it, you know the people who study it. BUT stay away from the so called scientists profiting from the oil industry, they have an incentive to oppose the truth of global warming. You cannot live without a healthy planet. Yet, we can very well live with terrorists in the world and change their behaviour faster than we can change the poisoning of the planet. Like the very well known scientist, Stephan Hawking says, "I'll be glad if we don't look like Venus in a hundred years'.

Addition: Do your research. CO2 levels have dramatically risen since the industrial revolution and in particular, the 1950's thru today. So have global temperatures. This is no normal warming or cooling pattern.

OK for the record I am a moderate independent
Global warming is a far bigger threat than terrorism. If there is no world I guess bombs don't matter much anymore. Global warming will effect the whole world and all life forms. Terrorism varies by area and intensity and frankly I am not that worried about what Osama is doing today.

I ask myself if you deserved an answer for your obviously slanted question. Global warming is probably no threat to you what so ever, however how do you feel about your grand babies starving to death because you have all the money in the world but are not able to find any food. There are so many things that will happen if the global warming crowd is right an you are wrong. However if you know more then the scientific evidence and are right then what exactly do you have to lose by protecting the earth anyway. See this question isn't about you at all, but it is about the future of the planet.

Global warming is the greater threat, so that must make me a liberal, right?
Global warming will affect everyone on the planet, not just us or Europe, everyone. It has to be the greatest threat to mankind & the sooner people wake up to that fact the sooner we may be able to take some steps to stop it. It's going to take some doing & since America is the greatest abuser we are going to have to make the most changes. Come on, its not going to be that hard, really. We must all do something & some of the changes are really simple & easy. All of us know what must be done, except those who deny that it is happening. Bet they know some steps to take to help stop it, too. Why not help, what can it hurt?

If it was Osama, then why haven't we found him yet after so many years with, supposedly, the best technology to do so? You have to admit that Global Warming is real and scientific data shows the spike in emissions since the industrial revolution with it continually increasing. It's really all about oil and profits to be made.
