well Mr. Big animal vet, the reason I asked my question (and you as a vet should be more concerned aout it than me) that types of questions,, things like "My dog is puking blood, should I call a vet?" DUH. People get animals as toys, you should also be concerned about this. You seem more focused on presentinmg your "pedigrees" than animal well-being

Agreed... But to consider both sides, I can say it does suck to take your pet to the vet and have them tell you it's no big deal and act like your overprotective or something and then charge you 100 bucks! Also, there's no huge over-the-counter market for pets, so your choice is really to look for free advice or go to the vet.

There is nothing wrong with asking someone for advice on anything. That doesn't mean that you can't afford the pet. I do agree that all animals need vet care, though. I have 3 cats, 3 bunnies, and 4 fish and every once in a while I need advice on things about my animals. Advice is also a good way to make friends. Plus, first time pet owners sometimes need advice, just like first time parents need advice. I even ask for advice when I get a new pet from pet stores. Advice doen't have anything to do with needing vet care. This is my opinion.

Yahoo Answers is for all ages of people and that means children, too. I don't have a problem sharing any information I can about pets. Not everyone always had a pet. If I recall correctly, my dog was my best friend and I loved talking about my dog with anyone who would listen. Hmmm, some things never change. So maybe some kids want to talk about their dogs and want to hear other people's version of pet related issues.

Simmer down all you grumps. Give the kids a break and help them out when they ask questions. How are they going to learn if nobody wants to answer their questions? Oh and for the adults asking questions - I married a man who had been married twice before and raised two children - and yet in all that time, he had never owned a dog. I got him interested in dogs (pun intended) and his questions seemed elementary to me, but he knew he could ask me anything about dogs and I wouldn't give him a snide, short nor rude comment - I would answer his question.

Come on everyone, lighten up.

Is someone needing a little attention- what is your girlfriend or something sitting on the computer and answering questions taking away your ME time? God gave you hand for a reason- why don't you try and use it and let people who want to educate themselves do so.....I mean- is Yahoo! Answers causing you to have to pay for therapy because you can't stand people getting advice?

And this is for COOKIE------ I'm a large animal veterinarian and never had a vet tech...so before you start saying that they do all the work- think about when the last time you saw the vet tech castrating a bull or neutering Rufus the family dog.

sure all animals need vet care. I agree with that.
I for one am very lucky to work with a vet that believes in homeopathic medicine and uses a lot of home remedies before administering costly medications.
Alot of medicines can have serious side effects.

So unless your pet is obviously gravely ill I don't think it hurts to get someone elses input.

Not every dog that vomits up some grass needs to rushed to the vet ya know... Ans some people may not know this.

Have a nice day

are you a vet with a shrinking business? most people don't have health insurance on their pets, although it's available, to where they can go to the vet for a $10 co-pay.
some people just don't know that much about the pets they have, and this is a place they can go and get someone who has been through the same thing possibly.
i'm sure there's a question you have that you don't want to pay a professional for to get an answer, or possibly up to 20 answers to.
why don't you try it!!!
go ahead, you may be enlightened!
have a good day, and leave us alone!

That's a funny question for yahoo answers.

Same as asking ....what is wrong with all these people in the human area asking for free advice....don't have a life if you can't afford it.

I can very well see why some do.
#1 answer.....going to the Vet and paying $135.00 for the vet to say....oh your dog's nose is running...give him some benadryl.

I'd much rather see someone ask a question here to get a Vet or Vet Tech's help.....then not seeking help at all.

They are usually advised to go see a Vet anyway.

Besides.....the Vets are nothing but Public Relation Vehicles.

The Vet Techs do all the work on the animals.

Last time I took my dog to the vet it cost $1800. I wish I had asked some free questions first. Do you even have a pet? And what is with all these people that don't know how to spell you?

When my doggie got sick the last time, I didn't take her to the vet, because the last time before I'd taken her there, the vet told me there was a large 'mass' inside her and he didn't know what it was. She seemed pretty sick. I took her home not sure what to do, and a few days later she seemed as good as could be.

But as I was about to say, the last time she got sick, I worried over her, but hoped she'd pull thru. She was getting up in years, so I'm not sure it was age related or what. But I haven't gotten another doggie since, because I honestly don't know what to do.

Don't you know that if you have an animal, and you take it to the vet everytime it gets sick, you could go broke!? I'm not saying an animal is not worth anything, but at times each person must make the judgment call, as they do in their own health, as what to do.

And therefore, since we're not doctors of ourselves usually, we have to ask for advice from any person we can. Make sense?

Do you go to a doctor every time you have a cold or your pinky hurts? Same principle. Otherwise you have a good point. For anything that's out of the ordinary, they should go to a vet.
