Have fun with the role. The vocal part isn't too demanding, but should have control and power. She has some fun belt moments in the song "Amayzing Mayzie" and other parts of the show. Keep good stange presence. Have definate choices of how you feel about giving horton your egg. Are you glad to be rid of it? Do you think you are doing the right thing? Do you not care? Do you feel bad for him? Get to know your bird girls well. In most productions, there are there with you. Have fun! Mayzie is a hilariously fun role (hard and exausting, too).
And... if its what you want, it can be a great stage stealer. But you should never try to steal the stage... if it happens, it happens. Thats awesome. Just do what you do.

Don't strain your voice to belt those B's and C's. If needed change your character a bit and go into a strong head voice. Make it work for YOU.
I do not advise you to watch or listen to any bootlegs or recordings.

Good luck, break a leg.

Mayzie is a great character to play because she is so out there. It requires good projection and energy, because she is such a lively and energetic character that is always kind of "in your face." I was in seussical this past summer, and its amazing because anything goes, really. It was really fun to work with.
