Guys seem to HATE it when you give more than they do. Parents ( in general)tend to give more money to girls than to boys (allowence). Then the boys then get embarrassed when they can't give as much (valentine gift) as they received.
So, you need to find out what he's getting u ... make sure that you're happy when he gives you his gift (even though you've already discovered what it is)and use this gift he gave you to enjoy his company and talking. Giggling and cooing are things that make him understand you enjoy the gift (which is a great gift in of itself). You might be limited to giving him a card, or chocolate token (depending on his means).
