Hello fellow snorer :)

I'll suggest a few things, finishing with what is making a significant differance for me.

First off, you should consider getting checked for sleep apnea. If you have apnea, its a health risk, and treatment is normally covered by insurance. the following treatments just suppress noise, if you have apnea, you need more then that.

Try the nasal strips. Some people, the snoring is based in their nose. Not me - and I think not most snorers. However, the strips are really cheap, so test them first.

If they fail, might as well try the spray. They didn't have a big impact on me.

Next, I'd suggest what does make a big differance for me - a mouth appliance. I highly recommend the one I bought, the Aveo TSD. If you're like me, you're snoring is loose tissue in your throat resting on your tongue and vibrating. If your tongue is pulled forward - no more snoring. Most appliances pull your lower jaw forward, which pulls the tongue with it. They need to be custom made, are expensive, and screw up your bite - but they can work. The aveo TSD is one size fits all, silicon, and uses a suction bulb to hold your tongue forward. Its a bit wierd to get used to (takes a couple days) and if my wife gets up, i take it out to rest without it, but I can certainly sleep with it in, and it made a big differance. I think it was around 100 USD.

Do not get the surgery. There can be a lot of complications, and recent studies suggest that two years later, most of them are snoring just as loud anyway. If you don't have apnea, I'd really try the strips, then the aveo.

There's different causes of snoring,so not everything is gonna work for everybody.

Something I had reccomended to me,,that works Great is a pump spray stuff called "Snor Enz".

It's a pepperminty flavored oil that you squirt into back of your throat at bedtime.

I snore terrible,,,,For me it almost elimates the snoring totally.
Plus,, I sleep better,,feel lots better when I wake up,,and dont have the usual morning cotton-mouth so bad.

I know several folks who swear by it,,,
and some who say it does NOTHING for them at all.
And I know a few who DONT LIKE it,,they say it chokes them.

It's usually at WalMart for about $8 for a LITTLE bottle.
Seems expensive,,but it lasts about a month for me.

May or may not work for You,,,but I beleive it's worth a try.

LOL,,here's their "As Seen on TV " website
http://www.asseenontv.com/prod-pages/snor_enz.html?afid=impulse

Here's some general info about snoring.
just a coincidence its part of snor-enz's old sales pitch

http://www.vitasentials.com/snorenz.htm

...............................................
Something else that helps for me.
Plain old "Vick's vapor rub",,I rub some on side of my nose and on my nostrils.
Mostly I sleep better,,but it helps snoring a bit.

........................
Snoring has always been a Joke,,cuz of the noise.

There really aint Nothing funny about it.

The more Dr's look at it,,it seems like the more SERIOUS a Health Condition they discover it is.

Sounds extreme,,,but if you have a Bad snoring prob you really should see a Dr about it.

Sleep aint just about "rest",,,it's when our body heals a lotta stuff.
It's like "Maintenance and Repair" time.

If you've got Insurance or any kind of healthcare plan,,
they MIGHT pay for some kinds of Medical treatments.
Usually they try to wiggle outa paying anyway they can.

There's some real simple Laser procedures that's pretty new,,,they do it on back of your throat.

There's a flap of skin that acts like a Reed on a saxophone,,,it vibrates when we breath at nite and makes the snoring noise.
What it's really doing is Choking us 1/2 the nite,,,Bad News.

The Laser Surgery tightens up/reshapes that flap of skin.
It doesnt take any hospital time,,or recovery time.
Just a little sore throat for a few days.
'Sposed to be pretty effective,,,and not Crazy expensive.

If all else fails,,You might wanna check that out.

Here's some links with info,,,just to give you an idea

There are nasal strips you can buy probably at any pharmacy, they go over the nose and apparently they help wonders to open the nasal passages to help you breathe more clearly and hopefully snore less. Hope this helps :)

Go to your family physician and tell him your problem.
Snoring is not always an innocent thing. It can be a symptom of other problems.

this is really none of my business, but are you kind of a heavy set guy? sleep apnea is a kind of illness that stops the heart while sleeping and is very deadly if not fixed. if not fixed you can die in your sleep. back in the day lots of people were undiagnosed and died of unknown reasons. if you wake up during the night and gasp for air then you probably have sleep apnea. if you feel like you dont get enough sleep even if you get many hours of sleep then you probably have sleep apnea. i would research it on the internet and see if you have the symptoms. if so talk to your doctor and they will set you up at the this place where you spend the night and they hook you up to these machines and see if you have sleep apnea by your test results.

I wonder if rolling the person on his/her side or belly would help alleviate the snoring. Just a thought.
