Do it yourself is not a good idea unless there is absolutely no disputes between you two and you have divided up everything, etc. You will still have to file with court. Call your county court and see what their requirements are and what forms you have to fill out. Each county in Texas works a bit differently. But, I highly, highly recommend you two get a lawyer. They can draft up the proper documents and you have a good decree in writting, so there is no way either of you can dispute it. If there are kids involved, that is more paper work and more court fees. If there is no dispute, a judge will just approve it without having a court case. Even with no dispute, it takes about a year for the whole process.
Seeing your additions, you have too much at stake...get a lawyer. Not only that, but they can set up the divisions easier.

Get an attorney. The only time you ought to do a do-it-yourself divorce is if and only if there are no kids, money, property or other kinds of assets involved and both parties are wanting the divorce.
Get an attorney and you will save yourself so much grief in the end.
Good luck.

There is a book called Divorce for Dummies. The "for Dummies" books are excellent and explain things in a step by step manner. It will cost around $20 at your local bookstore, possibly less on eBay or amazon.com.
I would recommend getting a lawyer, though. That way, no one--especially your kids--ends up too hurt.

I believe doing things yourself would be a good start to seperation, but definately not the legal aspect.
If you want to get the most fair settlement you should consult a divorce lawyer, also there are fees and forms you would have to go back and forth to find if you do it by yourself as well. I heard it can be difficult but not impossible.

The ONLY time you should do this yourself is NEVER. Even if both parties claim amicability, one or the other always gets their egos hurt somewhere along the way and the watch out!
Nope. Please go see an attorney. There are some firms out there that will work on payment plans or sliding scales. Find one now. It'll be money well spent.

I did it myself. I went down to B&N and got the work book. It had all of the paperwork I needed. The next day I went down and filed at the courhouse. I had to pay a filing fee. They said that was a wait about 60 days or so. After the wait I appeared in front of a judge. That was that. I am a free woman!

Only if you're trying to divorce yourself from yourself. That's the only way you're going to get a divorce in which both sides agree to the terms, unless you're schizophrenic, in which a divorce could be a little complicated.

Seek legal advice, check around and see if there is a free legal consultation or advice in your area.
Divorces tend to be a little bit sticky, especially if there are Children, Property, large amounts of money involved.
My suggestion is to seek legal advice
