After moving to a larger place I cleared out the public storage.
Strange thing, After spending all that money on storage I ended up giving half of it away to a women's shelter.

Bethy is right on target. Our stuff is the baggage we drag around for years because all of it is a part of us; it is who we are--things that family members gave us which we wouldn't dream of giving away, collections that are perceived as "valuable" (how many folks are still hanging on to those Beanie Baby collections because they were a good investment and they WILL be worth something someday, again), possessions that we believe define us but are just junk in others' eyes, and stuff that cost so much when we bought it that the thought of throwing away that much money is unthinkable.

I had a 10x10 unit filled to the rafters that I rented with the intention that it was temporary until I could go through it all. Three years later I needed to relocate across the country and it was time to face those demons. Some of it I took to auction, some of it I gave to my nephews for their apartments, and some of it went to Goodwill. But the bottom line was that there was nothing in there that I kept. The process was heart-wrenching because there were a lot of memories in each piece, whether large or small, but it was time to move on.

My life is a lot less encumbered and each item that I purchase now is with consideration as to whether I really need it or if it is just an "I wantie."

gave it away to my friends who were less fortunate than i was. Alot of my things that were in storage were very nice things that were "upscale". I figured if they were in storage all those years and i hadn't used them all that time it was obvious that i didn't need them. The motivation to do it was simply that i kept moving and i was tired of the "baggage".
