Or is it the drivers that are considered rubbish?

American car companies make poor quality cars. There are decent cars made in America, but they are made for foreign car companies.

I don't know why American car companies can't design a decent car that can keep it's paint on, or a transmission that can last 5 years, or not roll when a tire goes flat. Wasn't always that way, but It's been that way for a couple of decades now.

To me, yes. I think they are because the companies choose quantity over quality. When I was 3, my father was hit and killed by a Jeep. My mom complained to the company, but nothing was done. The next year, they had to fix the breaks on all American cars (something like that) for the breaks. That's why for my first car my mom won't let my buy an American car. That's why she and my new dad only drive BMW's. German engineering is the best in the world.

No. I can honestly say the american cars I've owned have consistently out lasted the foreign cars I've had. It all comes down to how well you take care of them, american cars are cheaper to maintain as well. I work construction and we tear the hell out of trucks, american models just hold up better than the others,

I think it depends where you are ! In Canada I'd much rather buy an american or a german car than say,,,, an asian car ! They're simply not designed to handle our extreme winters!! So no, american cars aren't RUBBISH, they just don't suit EVERYONE's needs.

The answer depends entirely on who you speak too, i.e., american car lovers, japanese car lovers or european car lovers. There are great cars in all categories, but what counts is how well the owner(s) maintain the car and how popular the car is. Much of this is extremely subjective, in reality.

Everyone has their preferences in automobiles. People who drive trucks (farmers and the like) usually choose American companies because they're cheap and get the job done. However American companies have been losing sales pretty steadily.

I have my first American made car and while I do love it....it's way below the standard of the foreign made cars I've owned.

After this one I'll never buy American again....until they really get their act together.
