Forget jumping rope. You should do sprints if you want to build up your short distance running. Do distance running (at least 2 miles) every other day to build up your distance running stamina. Ofcourse doing both would be best just switch it up every day. Also try wearing weights on your anlkes and heavy clothing.

Practice makes permanent, practice what you want to do, if you want to run faster, practice running.
