I've recently gotten an xbox 360 for christmas, but it didn't come with a harddrive. I had a original xbox before this, but when i got xbox 360, i assumed you could play xbox games on it too. so i gave my xbox away and still have loads of xbox games. so i tried to play a regular xbox game and it said i needed a hardrive. i got a hardrive and now it's telling me that it doesn't support it and updates may be available. has this happened to anyone already? can you even play regular xbox games on xbox 360, or did i just waste loads of money on a hardrive for nothing? please help. what should i do?

When MS said that the 360 was backward compatible (BC), it pretty much outright lied to the gamers. The 360 is only somewhat BC because it doesn't have the XBX architecture. Instead it uses a software emulation to make the 360 BC. So, until a program is written for that game, it will not be BC.

There are about 200 games that's currently BC on the 360. You'll need to go to www.xbox.com and do a backward compatibility search to find the list of XBX games that's currently playable on the 360.

well I found this though I know it is not comforting you..
it seems like they don't mention the old games it seems like new system . but don't get upset you need the hard drive any way to download new games . my advice the person you sale to the xbox talk to him to buy the games too and try look at that site they have nice deals for xbox games. http://sratim.rocket976.hop.clickbank.net/

Q. Let's say I just purchased an Xbox 360 and brought it home. Will I have access to Xbox Live right out of the box? What's free and what do I have to pay for?

A. The Xbox Live Silver Membership is free to all Xbox 360 owners, and includes access to the Xbox Live Marketplace where you can download demos, trailers, and more. Plus you'll get access to voice chat and voice messaging. For a monthly fee gamers can upgrade to the Xbox Live Gold Membership which includes multiplayer gaming, video chat (coming soon), and more.

yes this happen to me, i bought one with the hard drive,, what i had to do was go xbox.com and burn the updates to a disk and load it on to the 360. they are on there and are free to copy, took a little looking around to find it, but if you go to the FAQ section it will give you what you need to find them
